Ex-Swansea player Alan Tate to take coaching badges
It has been a busy few weeks for Alan Tate, not only has he signed for Welsh Premier League club Port Talbot Town F.C. but he also revealed that he plans to take his UEFA A-Licence coaching badge.
In an interview shortly after announcing his 18-month contract with Port Talbot, Tate said: “I’m not getting any younger, the next step after playing is going into the media, drop out of the game or go into coaching. I’ve always fancied myself as a manager, so that’s the way I want to go.”
He also added: “You never know what’s around the corner, but I’ve signed for a year and a half, there’s an option for another year in there so I am thinking of the long-term. While I’m there, we’ve agreed that the club’s going to help me get my UEFA A-Licence.”
Some other notable names who are currently taking steps to obtain their UEFA A-Licence include Rory Delap, Matt Taylor, Quinton Fortune and Stephen Bywater.
It seems Garry Monk isn’t the only player from Swansea’s golden era to take strides in their coaching career, as Tate and Leon Britton look to join him.
Britton has been coaching Swansea under-14s on a weekly basis, he said in October: “As you get older, it is about looking at life after playing. Coaching is definitely something I am looking to do when I finally hang up my boots.”
Tate’s Port Talbot side’s next home game is against The New Saints on November 22nd, where Swansea fans can see him in action.
