Napoli have turned down a club-record bid from Swansea City for Manolo Gabbiadini, according to reports in Italy.

Gabbiadini is an Italian international striker, who’s played for Atalanta, Juventus, Bologna, Sampdoria and Napoli in Serie A. He signed for Napoli for £8.75 million in January and has become an important player for Maurizio Sarri’s side.

With his versatility, Gabbiadini is predominantly a striker, but can also feature as a secondary striker and a winger.

Reports claim that Swansea submitted a 22 million euro bid (£16 million) for the 24-year-old, but that was immediately turned down by Napoli. Apparently, Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund are also chasing the man who’s scored four goals in four Europa League games this campaign.

It’s evident that Swansea need a new striker in January, and Gabbiadini would have been an exciting acquisition. However, it’s now likely that Huw Jenkins will not bid more than £16 million for the pacey Italian.

The Swans have also been linked to Fiorentina’s Giueseppe Rossi and QPR’s Charlie Austin recently, as they target a goal-scorer to salvage the club from the relegation zone.
