Guidolin admits to set-piece problems
New Swansea City boss Francesco Guidolin has admitted that defending set-pieces is a big problem for the Swans.
During Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace, Swansea conceded a goal to a corner – which is the third consecutive game in which that has happened.
It’s becoming a major problem for the Swansea defence, and one which must be sorted out soon if they are to get all three points in games. In their last two matches, Swansea have lost four points due to switching off when defending an opposition corner ball.
Speaking to BBC Sport, Guidolin admitted that there’s a problem, but the Swansea fans shouldn’t be worried.
It is a problem at the moment – we must understand what is better for our team. Don’t be worried because, if a team is worried, it’s negative.
I think we have to look at the problems, to try to improve it but there is no need to be worried.
We have to do more work on the training ground but it is not easy because it is different in matches – but we do need to work. We could have had two wins.
Swansea face Southampton at the Liberty Stadium next week, and they will need to switch on from set-pieces against the Saints as they boast big ariel threats such as Graziano Pelle, Charlie Austin, Jose Fonte and Maya Yoshida – who scored from a corner versus West Ham on Saturday.
