Swansea City midfielder Leon Britton says that Liverpool’s Joe Allen misses Swansea – which will only fuel speculation over a return to the Liberty Stadium for the Welshman.
Allen is currently out-of-favour under Jurgen Klopp at Anfield, and talks over a contract renewal at Merseyside are stuttering.
In order to reignite his career after his big £15 million move to Liverpool in 2012, Allen might be thinking about a move elsewhere to acquire regular showings in the Premier League – and Swansea City could be just the club for him.
Speaking to TalkSPORT, Britton said:
He’s a fantastic player, Joe, and one of the only in my time that have come through the youth system and gone on to perform really well in the first team.
He’s maybe had a bit of a tough time at Liverpool with some of the fans, but he’s played well recently.
He’s a very good player. I know he misses Swansea and home so it’ll be interesting to see what happens because I know his contract’s running out.
Allen would be a good acquisition for the Swans, and it’d be likely that – if injuries stay quiet – he could recapture his outstanding form which he displayed for Swansea in 2011/12.
Who knows, we could be seeing one of the smallest midfield pairings in football again, with Allen and Britton playing alongside each other.
