One of Swansea City’s biggest problems is undoubtedly the left-back position.
Neil Taylor’s performances recently have been pretty dire, which has fueled talk among fans that the Swans should sign a new left-back in the summer.
So here I’ve shortlisted five possible players that could overtake Taylor as Swansea’s starting left-back for next season.
Stephen Kingsley has done a cracking job when starting for the Welsh club this season, and could well become a future solution. If we needed to bring in the quality for next campaign, though, look no further than my selected five.
What do you think? Would you keep playing Kingsley next season, or do you have any other left-back suggestions? Let us know on Facebook or Twitter!
Ben Davies
We would have to splash out to give Davies a Swansea return, with Tottenham wanting a decent return on the Welshman. However, he is barely playing for Spurs and surely would consider a move back home for regular minutes if offered.
Patrick Van Aanholt
If Sunderland get relegated, this would be a very realistic signing. The Dutchman has been phenomenal for the Black Cats this season, scoring four goals and acquiring two assists – and from a full-back that’s a great statistic. He wouldn’t be too expensive either.
Kieran Gibbs
The Arsenal left-back is set to leave the Emirates in the summer after struggling for game-time this season. As an England international, he wouldn’t be cheap, but the 26-year-old would undoubtedly bring quality to the side.
Emiliano Insua
Insua has had a tremendous campaign for Bundesliga side, Stuttgart. The Argentine had a pretty unsuccessful few years at Liverpool, but following his respective moves to Sporting Lisbon, Atletico Madrid and now Stuttgart, he’s turned into a solid and consistent left-back. As for pricing, he shouldn’t cost much more than £5 million, as per Transfermarkt.
Bacary Sagna
The Frenchman is out of contract at Manchester City at the end of the campaign, and will be a free agent in the summer. Despite being 33-years-old, Sagna is a good full-back – capable of playing on either the right or left.
