Opinion: I’m proud at how we fared in the 2015/16 season
After a good start to the season, drawing 2-2 to Chelsea, and beating Manchester United and Newcastle, things turned ugly.
Swansea went on a run of 18 league games, only picking up 11 points in the process, six of those being against Albion and now-relegated Aston Villa. A memory of mine is being on a plane to Dubai, and thinking that we would actually lose the Villa game. I was probably the loudest person at DXB Airport in Dubai at 10PM.
Oh yes, and I stayed up until 2am to watch Match Of The Day.
Anyway, enough of that.
It was only when we brought in Guidolin that I felt happy with the performances. Yes, he may not be the greatest manager in the league, but it’s him that we should thank for keeping us safe. Alan Curtis (Or Mr. Swansea) should get plaudits for guiding us to wins against Arsenal and Norwich too, two crucial games this season.
Without him, would we have managed all the recent wins we had? The ones against Everton, Chelsea and Liverpool? I’d say no.
The team got along much better at the end of the season, There were less mistakes, no reports of players throwing bricks because they couldn’t eat Coco Pops and orange juice (Chico Flores), and the team seemed more united under the Italian.
Swansea finished the season in 12th, with only three defeats in the last 11 games. Not too bad eh?
Now we just look forward to next season. I’ve got a good feeling…
