Matt Grimes unsure over Swansea future
Brought in as an exciting prospect from Exeter just last summer, England U21 international Matt Grimes has told local media that he is unsure where his future lies as a Swansea City player.
Grimes, 21, is currently out on loan at Championship side Leeds United – managed by former Swans’ boss Garry Monk, who also has Kyle Bartley on loan from the Liberty Stadium – but has made just four starts so far this season and is yet to make much of an impression on the Leeds fans.
After an impressive performance against Norwich in the EFL Cup – despite missing a penalty in the shootout – Grimes sounded uncertain when asked about his future by BBC Radio Leeds:
“It’s a big question. I’ve still got this year and two years left on my contract at Swansea. We’ll take it game by game, see how things progress and take a decision when it comes to it.”
Once tipped to be a Swansea ‘great’ by club ambassador and icon Lee Trundle, Grimes struggled for game time on SA1 as his preferred ‘number 10’ role was consistently occupied by Gylfi Sigurdsson, while his quality of passing wasn’t enough to see him make a regular claim for first-team football further down the pitch.
