Swansea City have enjoyed a good start to life back in the Championship.
Graham Potter started his reign at Swansea brilliantly with a 2-1 away win at Sheffield United, which was followed by a neat 1-0 win over Preston.
The first points dropped came in a stalemate at Birmingham City, and then free-scoring Leeds came to town but couldn’t take home more than a point. However, a narrow loss to Bristol City came next. The Swans returned to winning ways with a huge performance against Millwall, coming from behind to take the spoils at the Den.
There’s been some really impressive showings from the Swansea players in the opening month of the campaign and it’s great to be enjoying our football again.
Here’s my top five players of the season so far.
Oli McBurnie
McBurnie proved his worth at this level last season with Barnsley and has taken his blistering form into the 2018/19 campaign. A return of four goals in the opening six games in an impressive feat, with a brace against Leeds showing exactly why he can be one of the best strikers in the Championship.
Connor Roberts
Roberts is going from strength to strength and has fully asserted himself in the right-back position. Hard working and versatile, the 22-year-old ended a magnificent month with a goal in his first start for Wales last week. I don’t think Naughton will be able to overtake Roberts any time soon.
Joe Rodon
Thrown in at the deep end after the club failed to replace Fernandez, Mawson and Bartley, Rodon has made a faultless start to life in the first-team. The former season ticket holder at the Liberty has been strong at the back and is good with the ball at his feet. The Welshman has a big future at the club.
Bersant Celina
Celina’s arrival made for some excitement around Swansea over the summer after impressing at Man City and then Ipswich Town on loan last season. The Kosovan has fitted in superbly well and suits the style of football Potter wants to play. Comfortable on the ball, Celina is has impressed with his effective passes and seems to have a good understanding of everyone around him.
Jefferson Montero
When it was revealed that Montero would be staying at the Liberty I was quite cautious at first. However, the Ecuadorian has proved me wrong and has been a huge asset, despite not starting a game. As an impact sub, Montero is a nightmare for opposing full-backs and if he can stay fit, will be one of the best players in the league.
